Healing Your Disease Starts from Accepting It
When I thought too much, sometimes I could not go to sleep.
One day I was suddenly speechless
Currently, lung cancer has the second highest incidence among both men and women. Every year, many patients die from lung cancer. As we all know, cigarettes are the main contributor to lung cancer. Studies have shown that the likelihood of smokers getting lung cancer is 10 times higher than for non-smokers. In addition, the chance of smokers who started under age 15 getting lung cancer is 50 times higher than for non-smokers.
My name is Jiadi. I am almost 70 years old. I started smoking when I was 11 or 12 years old and I never stopped. In 1998, I suffered from tuberculosis (TB) but I did not stop smoking. In 1999, I realized that smoking was bad for my health, and so I decided to quit smoking. But it was too late because the cigarette toxins had accumulated in my body for nearly four decades. Consequently, I got lung cancer in 2002.
At that time, every day in the morning when I woke up, I found my cough was blood-stained with sputum. At first I was not sure what was happening, “Oh, how come I cough with blood-stained stuff every morning?” Since I did not have any other symptoms, I put it down for a few months. The problem was that my symptom never improved. So I was determined to see a doctor for treatment. I went to 2 to 3 hospitals, I saw some physicians specializing in TB, but they did not find the cause. I followed the doctors’ prescriptions, but my condition did not get better.
One day, I lost my voice and was unable to make any sound at all. I was terrified and went to see an otolaryngologist immediately. I told the otolaryngologist my symptoms, and he said I had no ENT (Ear<Otology>, Nose<Rhinology> and Throat<Laryngology>) problem after checking. But I needed to have lung X-rays because my lungs may have had problems.
I followed the doctor’s advice and went to see a pulmonaryspecialist. The X-ray confirmed that I had lung cancer. Also, the cancer had spread to my vocal cord causing the dysfunction. When I heard the doctor’s diagnosis, I was speechless and did not know what to say. After a moment to calm myself down, I asked the doctor what to do. The doctor said his hospital there did not have the proper facilities. I went home to discuss it with my family and my son suggested that I have the proper treatment at a large hospital in Bangkok.
I took this advice and scheduled chemotherapy. I cannot remember clearly whether I had 6 or 7 cycles of chemotherapy in total. After the chemotherapy, I also had 38 cycles of radiation. I only asked my doctor one question, “Will I have my lost voice back after all these treatments?” The doctor said, “It will get better.” Therefore, I did what he wanted me to do.
Accept it and calmly face it.
I was a person who was always thinking too much. When I thought too much, sometimes I could not go to sleep. I thought if I had cancer one day, I would be unable to accept it and must die. Contrarily, I was surprisingly calm once I knew I had cancer. I had never asked my doctor which therapeutic procedure I was having or how big my tumor was and I was never nagging. I did what he asked me to do without a doubt. I would like to tell other cancer patients to keep a calm and stable mood by pretending to know nothing. Do not grumble about what you have lost. Eat whatever you have; sleep when you need to and have a normal life. Learn to control your emotion and stress. You can find alternatives such as reading Dharma for your spiritual remedy based on your personal religion. For me, I chant a bit but not strictly. My wife had been chanting for me.
I Have Been Able to get though My Tough Time, Perhaps I can Summarize with a Few Reasons:
First, strictly follow your doctor’s instructions and treatment plan. I think patients cannot rely on a dietary and nutritional regimen to cure their diseases. In fact, I oppose this dietary approach to treating cancer because patients are being controlled in what they eat. They are not allowed to have a lot of food. They do not realize that if their bodies do not have enough nutrition from food, they will not have energy and power. I eat almost everything because my doctor has never said not to. My home is a bit far from the hospital. During the 2- to 3-month treatment, it was night when I finished my treatment and left the hospital so I ate out on my way to home.
Second, take Tian Xianq Liquid. 2 days after I was diagnosed with lung cancer, my son gave this medicine to me and asked me to take it. I have been taking it because of my son’s kind regard. As I strive to do as he says, I think this medicine has helped to reduce the side effects of my treatments. During radiation, I did not have any allergic reaction. During chemotherapy, I did not have any side effects and lost just a little hair. I also ate well and slept well.
Finally, it is your state of mind. It is very important to keep a placid state of mind and not to think too much. Now I am healthy, normal and perfect. I can speak as loudly and clearly as before. A lot of people hardly believe that I am the same person who was suffering from lung cancer and losing his voice few years ago.
